LIFE Timber for All presents FINSA with the results on the use of biomass ash in concrete

On 15 July 2026, the LIFE Timber for All project team held an online working meeting with representatives from FINSA and CETIM to present the progress made in the study on integrating biomass ash into the concrete products developed by Rodiñas.

During the meeting, the main findings of the report prepared under Work Package 2 (WP2) were presented. The report focuses on the mix design and standardisation of this ash for its potential use as a partial replacement for cement and aggregates. The technical specifications required to incorporate this material into concrete production were also discussed.

The results presented highlight the potential of the ash generated at FINSA’s Fibranor plant for use in different types of concrete, including concrete intended for structural applications. This line of work opens up new opportunities to recover value from a biomass-derived waste material and reduce the consumption of conventional raw materials in the construction sector.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to analyse the current regulatory limitations associated with the use of biomass ash and to discuss the next steps required to advance its characterisation, standardisation and future incorporation into construction solutions.

Representatives from the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Rodiñas, Xilonor, 3edata, FINSA and CETIM took part in the session, strengthening collaboration among the organisations involved in developing more sustainable construction materials and systems.
