The LIFE Timber for All project explores avenues of collaboration with the Lviv Agglomeration Association for reconstruction in Ukraine
The project consortium held a working meeting with representatives of the Lviv metropolitan association to share sustainable building solutions and identify future cooperation opportunities.
Innovation and decarbonisation in building
Representatives from 3EDATA (Boris Hinojo) and IAAC (Daniel Torrego), participating entities in the LIFE Timber for All project, met virtually with Roman Kizyma and Iryna Telehii, members of the Lviv Agglomeration Association. During the meeting, the key objectives of LIFE Timber for All were presented, focusing on decarbonising the construction sector through the use of cross-laminated timber (CLT) combined with concrete. Additionally, the team explained the developed structural designs (Rod-Compact. Rod-Alveo, Rod-Box Rod-BoxTens), traceability tools such as the Digital Product Passport, and the integration of the New European Bauhaus principles.
Reconstruction needs and regional potential
For its part, the Lviv Agglomeration Association —which encompasses 13 municipalities and over one million inhabitants in western Ukraine— presented the urgent need for rapid, cost-effective building solutions for municipal and residential reconstruction and rehabilitation. In this context, it was proposed that the Lviv region could act as a "living lab" to implement industrialised timber construction models leveraging local forest resources.
Next steps
With the goal of structuring future collaborations within European calls (such as the New European Bauhaus), the following key agreements were established:
- Industrial context analysis: Conduct a preliminary mapping of the timber supply, demand, and industry in Ukraine to identify specific needs and other previous efforts.
- Ongoing dialogue: Maintain institutional contact between entities and municipalities to exchange knowledge and explore long-term partnerships.
